Cool historical touch from home plate ump Phil Cuzzi at new Yankee Stadium today.
Fifty-three years after Babe Pinelli called a questionable strike three on Dale Mitchell as he faced Don Larsen to end the most famous pitching performance at the old yard, Cuzzi punched out Mark DeRosa on an even more questionable strike three to give Mariano Rivera the first save in the new stadium.
(Chill, Yankees fans. I realize DeRosa should have been called out two pitches earlier. I'm just trying to get you riled up, that's all.)
I need a vacation. Oh, wait, I had one last week. Never mind.
